How has migration flow to Latin America since 1500 created a complex set of racial identities in the region? I want to start with why people are migrating there in the first place. In Latin America, there are many more opportunities for people. But, since the 1500s there has been a lot of migration. Of the other ethnic people that descend from other countries are from Asia, Africa, and other European countries. Latin America has what is called a Triple Heritage which includes Indigenous, African, and Iberian. During the Atlantic slave trade, 12 to 28 million Africans were brought into Latin American countries including the Caribbeans, Brazil, and Mexico. So, there have been many different ethnicities for a long time but now people are going to Latin American for the opportunity to have a better life than what they have elsewhere. They are going to Latin America to find better jobs, better work, and a better overall life in this new place. People are also migrating to Latin America because they want their children to have better lives, and bringing then there they are getting to go to better schools. But, once you begin having all of these different people coming into one place all wanting to better their lives. Then all of these different races start to find that people are putting others lower than themselves because they think they are better. It starts to become more of a competition. Which makes it more difficult for more people to live there happily.

I have a two-year-old son, his name is Asher. He is who I hang out with all of the time. He is one of the reasons I chose to go into this field. He is so smart and I love seeing how his brain works and how much he learns every day. I also enjoy singing while I am not working or doing school work. I have always loved music and loved singing it even more. I was going to go to school to be a music teacher but then decided that was not the field for me. I am a waitress/ bartender at Red Robin here in Lubbock. I have been working there for about three and a half years now, and really enjoy it. In me and Ashers free time we like to volunteer with the Lubbock Promise Neighborhood. We go to classes and serve people their food and just hang out with them. That is lots of fun, and we get to meet great people while we are doing it. I am very excited about this class, I am excited to see what new things I learn. I hope to get through this class with a great grade and even more knowledge.
The Arid Region?
Why do so many Americans identify Africa as an arid region, when the continent has such large expanses of rainforest and savanna climate? As a child, I did always think that Africa was a very dry, struggling continent. As I read more about Africa I seem to find out the real climates. There are three main regions that I have read about. One, The Sahara. The Sahara takes up twenty-five percent of Africa but is not the largest vegetation zone. While I also thought that Africa was full of the rain forest because I watched Tarzan many times. But in fact, the rainforest in Africa only covers a small part of Africa. This is right along the Guinea Coast and in the Zaire River Basin. The largest vegetation zone in Africa is tropical grassland, or also known as the savanna. As I continued to read about this question I read that the deforestation in Africa is very bad. Taking out a lot of the forest area in Africa. I then read that there were two types of savannas, the savanna, and the man-made savanna. The man-made savannas come from the deforestation problem. I feel like the reason a lot of Americans think that Africa is an arid region is because that is what is perceived as. Like in movies, pictures, commercials, and news articles. While there are some things that show the other regions of Africa. But, I feel like most of what Americans see first hand is the arid areas of Africa.
The Two Sub-disciplines of Geography
The two main Sub-disciplines are Human/ Cultural geography, and Physical Geography. Human Geography deals with social, economic and the behavioral acts. This is the study of humans. The way human activity affects or is influenced by the earth’s surface. It is also the study of people and their communities, economies, cultures, and the interactions with the environment. They do these studies by looking at their relations with and across a curtain place. The way people interact with each other in their different environments. The other sub-discipline is physical geography. This is the study of natural science which deals with the study of patterns and processes in the natural environments. When this is being studied the earth is usually divided into several spheres. These are the atmosphere, biosphere, cryosphere, geosphere, hydrosphere, lithosphere, and pedosphere. Some areas of physical geography also include geomorphology: the study of the earth’s shape and surface, and how it came about. The current state of the land and its aspects. Coastal Geography: how the land and the ocean affect each other. Oceanography: The study of the oceans and seas. The physical geography is very important because it is the study of the natural process of earth; which affect the the distribution of resources. Like, carbon dioxide, freshwater, and mineral deep underground. I am very interested in learning more about both physical and human geography. Because, I have always been cautious about the planet, and the people that live in it. So, to be able to learn about it and how to fix it.
